Membership of MANZ falls into three categories:

Motel Membership

This category of membership is for motel owners and operators, who are eligible, to gain access to a wide range of exclusive services, savings and useful information. You will also be kept up to date with the latest tourism news and developments. You'll receive our quarterly MANZ Edge publication covering news about people, events and analysing topical issues. Once you are a motel member of MANZ you will have special access to the Member News section of the website for information sharing and the networking resources available to you, via the Internet, 24 hours a day.

The general running of your motel can present a perceived minefield of laws, regulations and business issues. That's why we offer advice to members on issues such as:

  • entering the motel industry: training, information and contacts and the lifestyle change involved;
  • purchasing and leasing motels: issues to watch for and access to MANZ-accredited motel brokers;
  • operating your motel: the association's Motel Operator's Handbook (the Blue Book) is an important aid in helping moteliers in their business. It is essential reading for all moteliers, whether recent entrants or experienced operators and is available to members for $35.00 (GST incl.).
  • employment advice;
  • insurance: access to accredited agents who offer special packages to MANZ members;
  • tourism trends: from data obtained through Statistics New Zealand and Tourism New Zealand.

The MANZ website is also an excellent facility to help members in operating their properties. There is a Member News section which contains a variety of useful information, for example, a range of sample Individual Employment Agreements which comply with the Employment Relations Act 2000. The website also features an exclusive Bulletin Board which allows any MANZ member to network with others to share ideas and seek guidance on any issues they may be facing.

With MANZ motel membership you will also be able to use the MANZ online Duty Motel system. This service allows you to easily share your accommodation availability with other motels. It has proved so successful that the system has now extended to include an online availability reservation system which is the official MANZ preferred supplier. Duty Motel is currently used by over 800 motels throughout New Zealand and many also use online booking which they have found very successful in maximizing occupancy rates, especially during busy periods of the year.

MANZ Motel membership also means your business can make significant savings with respect to:

  • Telecommunications: Innovative services and competitive prices from TelstraClear(national and international tolls, land to mobile calls and 0800/0508 freephone lines);
  • Reduced credit card commissions: reduced rates on ANZ or BNZ VISA or Mastercard transactions through an EFTPOS terminal;
  • Special Diners Club card commission rate;
  • Beds, linen, furnishings, merchandise, paint and redecoration services, rental equipment and generous discounts on many other commodities and services (including rental car and accommodation for when members go on holiday!);
  • Lastly, MANZ keeps its members well informed and ahead of their competitors. Our quarterly publications MANZ Edge and The MANZ Bulletin contain updates on many topical issues, and provide useful tips and information. These printed publications are supplemented by our weekly electronic newsletter eMANZ NewZ, which contains the most current updates and news.
MANZ also has an exclusive alert system that is used to transmit urgent Police messages and warnings to all MANZ members, allowing them to take steps to protect themselves, their properties and their businesses from individuals who are either sought by or operate on the fringe of the law.

Fee Structure

Allied Membership

This category of membership caters to businesses that have a special commercial relationship with moteliers and offers formal recognition and added value from the Motel Association of New Zealand Inc. Allied membership offers a competitive advantage to commercial organisations that have regular contact with MANZ members, while delivering benefits that assist MANZ members in their businesses.

An Allied member will not have speaking, nomination or voting rights at any meeting of the Association nor be eligible to hold any office of the Association. Such a member may attend the annual MANZ Conference and AGM, and receive the MANZ Edge and other correspondence from the MANZ Wellington office. Application for Allied membership are approved by the MANZ Board and are influenced by the applicant's recent industry background, track record and reputability. The subscription period is annual and the fee is non-transferable and non-refundable.

Benefits of Allied Membership

Allied members are entitled to:

  • supply attributed industry-related educational articles for features in The MANZ Bulletin (one per year) in consultation with the MANZ Chief Executive;
  • receive a copy of the MANZ Edge quarterly newsletter;
  • request speaking opportunities at "commercial" evenings of MANZ branches or Associations, at the discretion of those bodies;
  • receive recognition of their Allied Member status in the MANZ Edge;
  • use the MANZ logo on all industry-related material;
  • be listed on the MANZ web site, including an optional at no-charge, of a plain language hyperlink from the MANZ website (www.nzmotels.co.nz) to one email and one website address;
  • be included in a listing of all Allied members once a year in the MANZ Edge and The MANZ Bulletin;
  • access MANZ membership benefits such as discounts and preferential buying arrangments with other allied members;
  • Member only access to the website

Allied member with the right to one annual A4 size mailout to members (promotional or informative) - $575.00 + GST Allied member without right to mailout - $425.00 + GST

Associate Membership

This category of membership is maintained to allow a special group of people to retain close links with MANZ. It is designed to allow ex-moteliers and former members of the Association to join, plus active moteliers in other countries. It also caters to those people in New Zealand who are closely associated with the aims, endeavours and activities of MANZ and who are contemplating joining the industry in the near future.

An Associate member will not have speaking, nomination or voting rights at any meeting of the Association, nor be eligible to hold any Office of the Association. Associate members may attend the annual MANZ Conference and AGM, and receive MANZ Edge and other correspondence from MANZ Wellington Office.

All Associate members who are preparing to operate, own, manage or lease a motel must apply to become a motel member on completion of the transaction. The Associate membership fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.

Fee Structure

The subscription for Associate membership is $100 per annum (including GST).
